Close to the sea
Nidingen Island is part of Gottskär Hotell. During the period April to September, we offer our guests a truly unique place to visit.
The old lighthouse keepers' cottages from the 1800s have been carefully renovated and today contain pleasant rooms and modern meeting spaces. Outside the buildings you will find wonderful sea bathing, curious seals, nesting seabirds and atmospheric drystone walls – all watched over by the old lighthouses. Nidingen is a place that is well worth a visit. If you're lucky, the magical "island" of Lilleland will appear above the surface when we stop with the boat at the eastern end of the 4 km long reef.
The season is short and lots of people want to stay here, so you need to book in good time for a unique visit to one of Sweden's sunniest places.
Here is an example of what you can fill your day with at the Island:
A few useful tips!
• Many species of birds nest on Nidingen between April and July, including the Black-legged Kittiwake, which nests nowhere else in Sweden. At those times, half of the island is closed and precautionary measures must be taken, particularly in the old lighthouses.
• Don't forget your swimming costume; Nidingen is a wonderful place to swim.
• You will be travelling out to a little island in the sea. Read our advice on the Rigid Inflatable and Accommodation tabs.
• Delays are always possible, so don't travel to Nidingen if you are short of time.
